Spring steel must have a high elastic deformation threshold as well as good fatigue resistance. The steels most requested by our customers are those of the 1050, 1075, 1095, and 5160 series. The last 2 digits of the 10XX series indicate the quantity of carbon.

1050 is a medium carbon (0.5%) cold-rolled steel with good wear resistance. It is used to make springs, clutches, disc brakes, and washers.

1075 is harder and more brittle than 1050 because of its higher carbon content. It is used for springs as well as knives.

1095 is a high-carbon steel (0.95%). It is used in springs as well as knives because it holds the blade well and can be easily sharpened.

5160 is a high-carbon steel, very fatigue resistant, and very ductile. It is used to make springs, sabres, and long knives. Its chromium content makes it easy to sharpen. However, it does not contain enough chromium to prevent it from corroding.
