-
aluminum
-
manganese
-
lead
More malleable than bronze and resistant to corrosion when it contains manganese, brass is used in:
-
plumbing
-
musical instruments
-
electronics
Types of Brass
Brass 280 (approximately 60% copper and 40% zinc)
Also called Muntz brass, it:
-
resists corrosion very well
-
is stronger and more rigid than 230 and 260 brass
-
has a golden color
-
is both malleable and ductile
-
is used in pipes, pumps, fittings, seals, electrical components, decorations and marine applications
Brass 360 (approximately 62% copper, 35% zinc, 2% lead)
Thanks to its lead content, it is a highly machinable material. It is used for:
-
screws, nuts and bolts
-
pneumatic fittings
-
plumbing
-
nozzles
Brass 464 (Naval) (approximately 59% copper, 40% zinc, 1% tennesse)
This brass is often used for corrosion resistant applications with good strength and hardness such as:
-
propellers
-
trees
-
rings
-
and more
Brass 485 (Naval) (approximately 59% copper, 38% zinc, 1% tennesse, 2% lead)
Due to its lead content, this brass is very machinable. It is used to make:
-
marine equipment
-
valve stems
-
fixings
-
condenser tubes
